One-Eyed Monsters in the Living Room from Dizzy Quilts

My hubby and I decided to buy some new living room furniture for Christmas. A new beautiful dark grey couch and chair as well as new end tables. Now we have seven grand-children and I would like the new furniture to stay new-looking for a while so we protected the new couch and chair with a stain-resistant treatment and I decided to make two table toppers for the tables.

The pattern I used to make these is One-Eyed Monsters from Cheryl Brickey's book "Just One Charm Pack Quilts". I got the book for free because I was a tester ...

Pretty in Pluses Baby Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

My boss, who's also a dear friend, is going to be a grand-mother this month. I waited to find out the sex of the baby and the nursery colours before I started planning the quilt. And once I had that information, I started pulling fabric and looking for a pattern to showcase the beautiful prints.

The pattern I used is Pretty in Pluses by Michelle Cain (From Bolt to Beauty). The pattern comes in three sizes: baby, throw and twin. I made the baby quilt and it finished at 40.5" x 48.5".

The instructions are really clear ...

Scrappy Mod Quads from Dizzy Quilts

I can't remember when I purchased the Mod Quads pattern by Designs by jb. I think I was on Pinterest looking for ideas for scrappy quilt designs (I'm still desperate to bring my scrap bins under control) when I found it. I googled the pattern name and designer and was surprised to find no website for Designs by jb. Instead, I found an online shop that sold it so I purchased the pattern from them.

The picture I had seen on Pinterest looked nothing like the cover photo on the pattern. It was made up in black and ...

A Crib Size Pulsar Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

I'm not a huge fan of the colour orange and yet, this is my fourth or fifth orange quilt now. Turns out my stash had quite a few orange fat quarters in it and I do like it with a black background, so when I made the decision to work on the Pulsar quilt and make a crib size quilt from it, I pulled four orange fat quarters and Kona Black.

I cannot tell you how much I love this pattern! It was super fun to make and I just love the results. This design is so versatile, I ...

A Pillow Sham for Debbie from Dizzy Quilts

A few weeks ago, my very good friend Debbie asked me if I'd be able to make her a pillow sham inspired by a photo she had of Eddy Van Halen's guitar (she's a huge VH fan). Her birthday was coming up at the time (it has now just passed), so I started planning the make hoping to have it finished by then.

Here is the picture she sent me:

And here is the pillow sham I made for her:

I started with about half a yard of Kona Cardinal and used the slash and insert method ...

Plus Plus Quilt for Marianne from Dizzy Quilts

Over the years, I've made many quilts for my children and grand-children. Nothing pleases me more than seeing my quilts displayed in their homes or seeing my grand-babies wrapped in them. And when my youngest daughter moved out on her own, she requested a quilt for her bed.

I haven't made a quilt this big in a long while and I knew it would take a long time for me to piece and quilt so I decided to go with a simple pattern: Plus Plus by Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs.

The pattern comes in three sizes ...

Just One Charm Pack Quilts Book Hop from Dizzy Quilts

Over the years, I've made many quilts from patterns designed by Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs. When Cheryl asked me if I would be willing to participate in the Book Hop organized to celebrate her latest book Just One Charm Pack Quilts, I didn't hesitate to accept!

All of the quilts in the book can be made from just one charm pack, an accent and a background fabric. The sizes ranges from baby quilts to small lap size.

The quilt I made from the book is the 9-Patch Challenge.

For my version of 9-Patch Challenge, I used ...

Modular Motion - A Small Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

If I'm going to be completely honest, I've had a couple of small finishes lately because I'm procrastinating getting started on a very large project and I'm not looking forward to all the cutting it requires. Here is my latest small quilt which will probably end up on the wall of my sewing room...

The Modular Motion quilt pattern was included in Issue 31 of the Make Modern magazine and was designed by Jamie Siel. I added it to my list of projects because I really liked the modern feel of it and all that negative ...

New Orleans Sidewalk Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

I finished another scrappy quilt! This is New Orleans Sidewalk designed by Linda Graham and published in Issue 39 of Make Modern

This took a really long time to cut and piece but it was worth the extra time - I love this quilt! But because the cutting and piecing took so long, by the time I was ready to start quilting, I really wanted it to be done so I chose to stitch a large stipple in grey thread.

I love all the different shades of green with the Kona Ash. And the backing is a gorgeous and soft sheet ...

Downstream Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

This week's quilt finish is my new favourite! I've always been attracted to very graphic, modern and all-solid quilt designs and this one definitely fits all of the above characteristics.

The pattern is by Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl. I'm a huge fan of Yvonne's work and this design had been on my to make list for a little while. But for some reason, I thought this would be incredibly difficult and take a long time to sew. It really didn't! The design is so clever - it's really all about colour choices and colour placement ...

A Table Runner for Marianne from Dizzy Quilts

My baby girl is moving out and getting her own apartment this coming May. I've promised her a quilt for her bed but until that's done, I decided to whip up a quick table runner.

I was going to make placemats at first and I had decided on this free pattern by Alissa Haight Carleton. But when I confirmed the colours with Marianne, she said she would rather have a table runner. Instead of going to look for a different pattern, I decided to make the placemats and sew them all together into a table runner.

I used ...

Arrow Baby Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

There has been a lot of talk and writing about blogs no longer being "relevant" and how fewer and fewer bloggers are active anymore. I guess that's due to the rise of Instagram and how quickly you can share on that platform. But I love writing and sharing on my blog and I still follow many, many bloggers. I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon either.

The baby quilt I finished is a result of a blog post from Lee Heinrich from Freshly Pieced which she published back in 2018.

This is such a simple design but the ...

Lady of the Lake Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Once upon a time, the Lady of the Lake emerged from the waters of Avalon to bestow a magical sword on young King Arthur. Arthur took that sword to war and…was mortally wounded. What a shame! What if she had given him a fancy new sewing machine instead? Just imagine the quilts he could have made!

The Lady of the Lake quilt pattern is an old-fashioned favorite made entirely of half-square triangles. Jenny used layer cakes in bright white and “Horizon,” the 2021 Kona Color of the Year to create a two-color quilt that is lovely as a fairytale ...

Some Walking Foot Practice from Dizzy Quilts

I have been having much fun with my walking foot lately! The little quilt I am sharing today started off as simply that - practice with the walking foot and my WALK book by Jacquie Gering.

I started with a half yard of some Kona Tangerine (it looks a little more red than orange in my photos) which I cut in half - one half for the top and one half for the back. I used one layer of cotton/poly batting and Aurifil #2600 (Dove) in 50 wt.

The design I went with is called Crosshatch Mash Up. I used 1 ...

The Fabulousness That Is February: One (or More) Monthly Goals from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Hello, my lovelies!  Happy Thursday, and happy FEBRUARY!  Now that I have replenished my supply of Kona Solid in Ocean, I came close to finishing two more sampler blocks for my Retro '80s Building Blocks quilt last night.  The 10" block below wasn't quite done yet when I took this photo:

Progress on Another 10 Inch Sampler Block

All of my block sections had been foundation paper pieced and trimmed, but they still needed to be pieced together and, in order to nest the seams the way I wanted them for crisp, perfectly matched seam intersections, I designed my ...

January OMG, Smashed to Smithereens from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Well, folks, my January OMG (One Monthly Goal) was to make four more sampler blocks for my Retro Building Blocks quilt.  I made six!

Four Retro Building Blocks Added to the Design Wall...

Plus This One...

...And Also This One

I know that making six blocks in a whole month might seem like a pretty weak goal, but I also completed a vintage quilt repair for a client, quilted several charity tops for our guild's outreach to local pediatric hospitals, and I just finished quilting a huge, gorgeous Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt for a client that I am DYING ...

Gather 'Round Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

Yet another Bonjour Quilts pattern all made up! This one is called Gather 'Round and I'm more than a little bit in love with it.

Besides the 3.25 yards of background fabric (which is Kona Ash in my version), this pattern doesn't require a whole lot - one yard of the chevron fabric (Kona White here) and 0.75 yard of the motif fabric (Kona Berry). I can picture it being pieced from a variety of different fabrics in the same colour family though - so you potentially could use fat quarters.

Kristy who is the designer behind Bonjour ...

Diamonds in the Deep in Grey from Dizzy Quilts

I pinned the Diamonds in the Deep quilt pattern by Bonjour Quilts a few years ago but I somehow only bought the pattern recently. And then a few weeks ago I finally started cutting the fabric to make it. I hesitated on the colours to use for a while but ended-up settling on Kona White and Kona Coal both of which I had plenty of in my stash.

I wanted to do something a little bit different for the centre squares and used a fat quarter of some sparkly fabric.

For the backing, I used an old sheet my hubby ...
